There are facials , and then there are IPL Photofacials. While both can make your skin look and feel more beautiful, the IPL Photofacial is able to reach into both the superficial and the deeper levels of the skin to create beautiful new skin inside and out. IPL Photofacials (also known as Photorejuvenation) use intense pulsed light in multiple frequencies to eliminate excessive pigmentation, redness, and unsightly capillaries visible through the skin, while also stimulating the underlying collagen to increase production of new skin cells. As a result, not only are the freckles, blemishes, and discolorations of the skin wiped clear but the overall skin tone and health is improved through the production of fresh skin, leaving you with a face that looks years younger and healthier.
IPL Photofacial treatments certainly differ from many topical anti-aging products found on today’s skin care scene. While this process may be beneficial to some individuals who are afflicted with severe sun damage, rosacea or hyper pigmentation, it may also be a tad more involved than most skin treatments. IPL Photofacial is a FDA-approved laser treatment that gently lasers off problematic skin areas and is approved to treat rosacea. The most popular areas are face, decollate and hands. However, I often treat back acne and upper or the lower arms for sun related pigmentation.
How long does the treatment take?
IPL Photofacial is a lunch time treatment that does not require anesthesia and is best described as gentle heating of the skin. To prepare your skin for a photofacial procedure, Kim will thoroughly cleanse and degrease your skin. The treatment will take 20 to 40 minutes. Post-treatment the skin may fill warm for a few hours. You can reapply your make up immediately after the treatment.
How many treatments are normally required?
Though one IPL Photofacial gives long-lasting benefit, a series of treatments (4-6) with 2-3 week intervals is recommended for optimal results, especially for more pronounced or serious skin damage. Many physicians recommend spacing the treatments out by about three weeks so the inner layer of the skin can heal. There is no guarantee that this type of laser therapy will completely eliminate skin problems, but in many cases it will greatly improve them. The treatment may be ineffective against very deep wrinkles and acne scarring.
